To The Prospective Hunter
June 5th 2004
A little over a week ago I finished an 11 day Safari with
Maclaren Safaris. I have been an avid outdoorsman for since
my childhood and have had the opportunity to hunt all over
the planet with a variety of outfitters, each with their own
version of "The Perfect Hunt". I just found the first outfitter
whose definition of "The Perfect Hunt" matches mine. I had
the best experience ever from both a hunting perspective as
well as an overall package of accommodations, knowledge of
species locations and delivery of all commitments. I strongly
recommend Selwyn Low and his entire staff to anyone who is
considering a South African safari. Feel free to contact me
directly if you have any questions at all regarding my experience.

A DREAM COME TRUE' is how I would describe
the time I spent hunting with the "MACLAREN SAFARIS" team.
A truly professional team in all aspects, with even the smallest
of details taken care of before I had even thought of them. This
was my first trip to the big continent, but it will not be
my last and to go with "MACLAREN SAFARIS" superb professional
hunters Selwyn Low and Shaun Abrahams again will be my first
choice. Their hunting concessions are huge and you have to
be totally alert as you just don't know what species may be
just over the next hill or bend in the bush track. As with
Sambar deer, it is real hunting. If you see an animal you
like, try to take it as you would be extremely lucky to see
it again, and you will see some fantastic trophies that will
need a "quick call". As a professional taxidermist and guide,in
my opinion the work of their skinners cannot be faulted, to
the extent that after my second animal harvested I just left
them to do what I normally do. I cannot close without words
of praise for Stephanie and Wendy, Selwyn and Shaun's wives
who happily kept me in contact with the outside world when
I felt that I must, or to answer some of my many questions.
So what are you waiting for, contact "MACLAREN SAFARIS" for
your "DREAM HUNT' as the only question that I keep asking
myself is "why did I wait so long", if need be, borrow the
money and go. The extra years of memories is worth more than
any interest you may pay. You are welcome to contact me via
www.sambardeerhunts.com
or www.thetaxidermyshop.com
of which I am the owner operator.

I am surprised not to see any comments from
the South African hunters on this page. You deserve it. Selwyn
thank you for the effort and hospitality that you put in to
make my hunt a memorable one. Take note that you will see
me on the 1st of june 2004. With some 40 years of hunting
expierience behind me I will gladly recommend you to any hunter,
South African or from overseas.

I have now hunted with several outfits throughout
southern Africa and Maclaren Safaris remains one of my very
favorite. This is one outfit that I intend on hunting with
again in the near fututre. The hunting was as good as it gets,
with great game variety and trophy quality, but the people,
food, and lodging were also exceptional and memorable. I can't
wait to get back and bowhunt with Selwyn Low and his crew
again very soon!

Hunting with you was my privledge! Not only
are you extremely knowledgeable and experienced, you are an
absolute crack up and always fun. Your areas have some of
the most beautiful and diverse game in RSA. I can't wait to
come back and hunt with you again next year- I will definately
stay longer. As female hunters, you made both Gray and I feel
very comfortable and welcome! Gray's huge, Gold Medal Nyala
wasn't so bad either. All the best

I Bowhunted with Selwyn in 2001 in Natal
near Mkuzi and had a wonderful time. I had several great stalking
opportunities at Nyala and Blue Wildebeast but was unsucessful.
I then booked a family vacation for 2002. Please feel free
to look at some pictures of our trip at http://amosgreg.home.netcom.com/AmosAfrica.htm
We Had a wonderful vacation and again the Bowhunting was wonderful.

Hunted with Selwyn in 1999 in Natal near Mkuzi on and had
a wonderful time. I have also had occasion to visit with
Selwyn in the U.S. He is a wonderful host, a real gentleman,
and most capable. Planning to be with again summer, 2001.

I found Maclaren Safaris to be professional, caring, and
extremely knowledgeable with regard to local history, photography,
floral and fauna, including their excellent ability to determine
trophy quality in the field.
I hunted with Selwyn and Richard in July 2000 and "we"
successfully collected 4-gold medal trophies, 1-silver medal
trophy, and 2-bronze medal trophies, in addition to a Zebra
stallion. Stephanie's culinary arts were excellent and she
genuinely made you a member of the family. We enjoyed the
tent camp, viewing the
Southern Cross above the campfire, listening to Lions roaring
at night, and our photo safari.
The hunt for a Cape Eland was quite a story. We departed
Anchorage three-hours late for our flight to Atlanta and
arrived just as the SAA flight should have been taxing down
the runway. Fortunately they delayed the flight, however
our one checked bag was not as lucky. Three days later it
was back in our possession but by that time the hunt had
begun in earnest. I sighted in the rifles, climbed the hills
in pursuit of game, and successfully collected a huge Cape
Eland (with great assistance from Richard) in my tassel-loafers,
a borrowed sweater, and denim "attitude" pants.
The pants are typical of what kids wear today and were the
only pants I could purchase locally that approached my inseam
length. Following the Eland hunt I thought I had a circulation
problem, as my legs were blue, but I discovered the real
culprit when I took off my socks to find flesh-tone coloring.
If you don't think it was difficult to climb those hills
and cliffs through the thorn and scrub with smoothed soled
shoes then I challenge you to a similar handicap. That should
make for an interesting SCI magazine story, the tassel-loafer
hunt!
I wholeheartedly recommend Maclaren Safaris to prospective
clients. Please contact me at stonestreetw@yahoo.com
for additional details.

Selwyn, Renae and I really enjoyed our hunt and wedding
in
the bush with you last summer. Looking over the newer photos
on the web site brings it all back. For you readers out
there, I book hunts and I prefer to hunt with the outfitters
I book for. After hunting with Maclaren Safaris, I recommend
Selwyn and Maclaren Safaris.

Your efforts to locate the birds and game were outstanding.
I particularly appreciate your willingness to travel to
the right location. Not many pH's would be willing to work
as hard as you did. Your dedication is obvious. It's also
obvious that
you've worked very hard to study and learn your craft. Your
knowledge of the animals and firearms and your judgment
of trophies is impressive. I have no reservations recommending
you to any of your prospective clients. Please have them
call me.

We had the pleasure to hunt with Mr. Selwyn Low of Maclaren
Safaris in April 1998. The service we received before, during
and after the hunt was second to none. The area we hunted
in KwaZulu Natal contained lots of game, especially Nyala
of which specie we saw quite a few in the 28-31 inch bracket.
There was also very good Impalas and Reedbuck. We bagged
Zebra, Impala. Reedbuck, Nyala and Bushpig. The latter made
it into Rowland Ward with lots to spare. We can recommend
Mr. Low For anyone that is interested in hunting in KwaZulu
Natal.
